James Working Extra Hard for Tonight’s Rematch Against The Spurs

After his season high 51 points on Tuesday against the Grizzlies, Lebron wants to make sure his jump shot is as good as it has ever been this season.

Lebron spent Wednesday afteroon after the team practice session at the Antioch Sports Complex working on his jump shot.

In the Finals last season, the Spurs dared Lebron to shoot the ball from the perimeter. He made only 32 of 90 shots (35 percent) and averaged 22 points for the four games. He shot 47.6 percent and averaged 27.3 points during the regular season.

“The Spurs did a great job of loading and building a crowd behind Bruce Bowen as he contained me,” James said Wednesday as he cooled off after his extra work.

Lebron James was so intent on improving his shooting stroke last summer. The Cavaliers player development coach Chris Jent traveled with James everywhere to workout with James on his shot.

Tonight’s game will be at 8pm EST on TNT.

LeBron MVP?

Brian Windhorst thinks LBJ should be MVP.

It has been said and written many times recently that LeBron James is having the best season of his career.

The Cavaliers are barely keeping their heads above water, heading toward the midpoint of the season at just a game above .500 at 19-18. Based on that trend, it would be a hard sell for James to win the league’s Most Valuable Player award because voters usually weigh the team’s record heavily.

No player on a team with less than 50 wins has received the MVP since Moses Malone of the Houston Rockets in 1982. The Cavs would have to finish the season 31-14 to get to 50 wins and match their record of the previous two seasons.

Nevertheless, James’ performance has never been better.

Mike Brown Gets a new Contract with the Cavaliers

Mike BrownAfter rumors of Mike Brown being on the hot seat, the Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry extended the coach a new 2-year contract extension that will keep him until 2010-11 season.

Brown is the winningest head coach in Cavaliers history with a .592 winning percentage (119-82). Brown has also won more playoff games (19) than any coach in Cavaliers history.

“Mike Brown brings his high character, work ethic and talent as a coach with him to work every single day. He has been, and will continue to be, important to our continued growth as a basketball team as we work towards a championship,” said Ferry. ”Dan Gilbert saw this in Mike Brown on his 1st job interview two and half years ago and it is evident today more than ever.”

“While the stats show that Mike has been the most successful head coach in Cavaliers history, it is his great leadership and his un-flinching focus on our core values and identity that continue to make him the right guy for the job.”

LeBron James Ticketed Driving 101 mph

LeBron James’ 23rd birthday started with the flashing lightbar of a state patrol cruiser in Medina County and ended with flashing cameras in Las Vegas.

The Cavaliers’ star was ticketed for driving 101 mph on Interstate 71 at 2:43 a.m. Dec. 30.

James, who lives in Sharon Township, was driving his 2008 white four-door Mercedes with vanity license plates ”KNG OF AK” southbound on the highway in Brunswick Hills Township when he was stopped. The speed limit on that stretch of highway is 65 mph.

He was cited for speeding.

Cleveland attorney Colin R. Jennings filed a not guilty plea Tuesday in Medina Municipal Court on James’ behalf. The case is scheduled for a hearing at 1 p.m. Feb. 11.

James will likely need to reschedule or have his attorney appear for him. The Cavs are due in Orlando to play a game that day.

James’ agent Keith Estabrook could not be reached for comment. Other details about the traffic stop were not immediately available.

James’ lawyer, Fred Nance, has been in traffic court recently dealing with tickets. James’ manager and CEO of his LRMR Marketing company, Maverick Carter, had Nance defend him in Middleburg Heights in July after Carter got his 19th speeding ticket since 1998.

Despite the rocky start to James’ birthday, he and girlfriend Savannah Brinson enjoyed a star-studded party in his honor at rapper Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in Las Vegas the same day he received the speeding ticket.

Double OT win for Cavs

It took two OT’s but the Cavaliers walked away with a victory against the visiting Bobcats 113-106.
Most folks probably thought the Cavs were going to win in regulation as Larry Hughes nailed two free throws with 5 seconds left to play to give the Cavaliers a 3 point lead.  But Raymond Felton had other ideas.  He dribbled the length of the floor and due to a sagging defense, was able to get off a decent 3 point shot which dropped through the hoop with .3 seconds left.

But Damon Jones two three pointers and LeBron’s 31 points helped the Cavaliers win their 19th game.
