Hollinger playoffs odds for the 2008-09 season picks the Cavaliers as the favorite to win the East by 56%. The Hollinger Power Rankings are a computer measure of each team’s performance in the season so far.

“The idea is to predict what a team’s odds are of making the playoffs, winning the division, making the Finals, etc., by simulating all the remaining games in the NBA season. We have a computer at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn., that automatically plays out the rest of the season every night — not once, but 5,000 times. And we can see from those 5,000 trials how many times a certain outcome resulted, then assign a probability from it. For example, if the Blazers make the playoffs in 2,500 of our trials, we say their odds of making the playoffs are 2,500 divided by 5,000, or 50 percent. ”

So based on ESPN computer, the Cavaliers will win the East and go all the way to face the Lakers in the NBA finals. Unfortunatily for Cavaliers fans, the Cavaliers odds to winning a championship only 18% compare to the Lakers 45.3%.

the lakers can’t defend the pick and roll to save their lives. the celtics proved that in the finals last season. the pick and roll is all the cavs run in a half court set.

I have a good friend who is a big Cavs fan, but his attitude toward Cleveland sports isn’t very positive most of the time since the Browns haven’t been consistent in a mighty long time. And me and him both would love nothing more than to see the Cavs pound the living daylights out of the Celtics this year to put a mile-wide smile on his face! I also have a great feeling that the Cavaliers will be World Champions if we can manage to beat Boston. GO CAVS!

As to LAKERS vs CAVS for NBA Championship…it all comes down to LAKERS greatest strength versus CAVS’ greatest weakness….
LAKERS’ front line (3 7 footers) vs CAVS’ interior defense.

Well, CAVS’ interior defense has been known to have games this year where they allow tons of easy lay-ups inside. Obviously, if that is the case vs LAKERS in the Champisonship series they LOSE and lose handily!!!

On the other hand, the CAVS are superior in all of the other aspects, so the was will come down to this battle.

The CAVS has Varajao, Ilgauskus, James starting on DEFENSE then can quickly rotate and bring in BEN Wallace and Joe Smith….banging bodies throughout like the CELTS did last year exposing the LAKERS as “soft” (without BYNUM)…with Coach Brown being DEFENSE minded and having convinced “BRON” to emphasize DEFENSE I a convinced that the CAVS will plug their leak in this regard and keep the LAKERS’ front line away from easy baskets….if they do that….CAVS will be 2009 NBA Champs and LeBron will be first ever recipient of the Bill Russell Award!!!
