It is simply Major League Soccer when referred to in a sentence. Think of it this way, the last word in the league's name is a sport, not an entity - i.e. league. You wouldn't say "the soccer" but would say "the league." So no the for Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball, Major League Lacrosse, but use a the before the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League.
